Many of us love to hear ghost stories, spooky and ghoulish, the thrill of the unknown. The disembodied spirits at Hogwarts are certainly entertaining.
But what exactly are ghosts? Are they even real or just some figment of our imagination?
As a highly sensitive person, I have seen many ghosts throughout my life.
I never feared them, as they seemed to me like regular people lost in some other time, such as the English Redcoat soldier sitting on a barrel at the bottom of our staircase when I was a teenager living in Massachusetts.
Or the time when we lived in Okinawa, Japan, and I was four or five years old. I saw a young woman with long, straight hair, leaning against a wall in my room in the middle of the night, looking sad and alone. I mistook her for my mother, even though my mom didn’t have long hair at the time.
Recently, I was asked to clear a home for my friend Sue’s friend, Cynthia, who was trying to sell her house in Lambertville, a small historic town on the Delaware River in New Jersey, where houses were selling like hotcakes.
Even those that had experienced extensive flooding a few years earlier were receiving offers in just a few days.
Yet Cynthia’s house remained stuck on the market for a solid eight months.
Sue had heard Cynthia talk about the activity of a poltergeist in her house over the years (not uncommon in their hometown of Lambertville).
As Sue mulled over the problem of having no buyers in eight months, it suddenly occurred to her that the reason might be the ghost. Sue immediately thought of me and put me in touch with Cynthia to see what could be done. I agreed to take on the challenge.
I learned that Cynthia had been aware of the presence in her home for a long time. It seemed to become particularly active whenever someone tried to take a nap or whenever a preservation remodeling project was underway.
“The presence would pound on my door, making the door shake, raising a racket.”
Eventually, Cynthia had a little talk with the spirit and “asked him not to wake up [her] husband as he needed his sleep.” She also tried to ease its concerns about the various ongoing projects in the house.
She explained to him that “ the changes were necessary to the preservation of the house…not to change it…only to preserve it.”
After that talk, the noises subsided, but she “knew he was not gone, just quiet.”
Meeting the Spirits
A day or two before I intended to do the formal clearing, I informally went in remotely to get a sense of what I might be dealing with. My first impression was the energy of deep grief and anger. I sensed him to be a man in his mid-to-late thirties or early forties.
This poor soul didn’t know why he was stuck, or why no one would listen to him (hence all the banging). I decided to fill the house with a pink light of soothing and protective energy until I could return for the whole session.
I felt a strong presence in the side stairwell I had seen in a photo.
On my first attempt to reach the spirit, I sensed he was hesitant to come close to me. But when I approached the stairwell with a special iron rose quartz crystal, it got his attention right away.
Mesmerized by the beautiful crystal, he was overjoyed at being seen and recognized by another human.
Finally!
I offered him the crystal, which he gladly took into his hands. He enthusiastically agreed to accept my help, and we (my guides and I) took him to a special inner world meadow, where his guides and loved ones awaited his arrival.
Once he was safe in their presence. I returned to search the house for any other lost souls.
To my surprise, I discovered a young boy in one of the upstairs rooms. He was approximately eight to ten years old, sitting against the wall, his knees drawn up to his chest. He seemed frightened by his circumstances, not understanding why he was there.
When he noticed me, he stood up (I still had my original crystal, as the one given to the first gentleman was a copy), and I offered him the crystal, which he immediately accepted. We walked together to the peaceful inner world meadow to meet his people.

Why Ghosts Exist and How to Help Them
So how does one become a ghost, seemingly haunting those of us still on this side of the veil of consciousness?
Sometimes, when people pass away from this life, they can become stuck in the places in-between this physical realm and the spiritual realm (also known in various traditions as the Garden of Eden, Heaven, or Eternal Paradise).
But how could they not know they died?
One reason is that if a person lacks a spiritual perspective of life after death (they think they won’t exist if they die), they may not recognize that they are no longer physical, and they don’t remember that they have guides to help them.
Another reason could be a soul contract to forget who they are until someone who has developed their spiritual abilities enough to help them to cross over (We create soul contracts in service to each other in support of our spiritual advancement).
If a person is not aware of this, they may not realize they have died, so they stay where they are familiar. Their guides must wait patiently for them to awaken to their reality, or until someone from the physical world can help.
There are many sources outside of spiritual texts that teach about the awareness that there is an
afterlife when we die. We move on from this life to the spiritual realms for debriefing and preparation for a
new life when we are ready.
My experiences have consistently revealed that those who remain in the in-between realms are usually full of grief or anger from being separated from the physical world, not understanding why no one hears or sees them.
I’ve also seen them quite content to stay right where they are, not realizing they can move on to a new existence.
For example, on one occasion during an inner journey to help lost souls, I came upon a middle-aged man, sitting in his kitchen, having coffee and toast. He didn’t want to go with me at first because he said he was waiting for his wife to return.
Once I told him I could take him to her (with the guidance of my guides), his face lit up with a smile, and he immediately agreed. We went to the drop-off point where she was waiting for him with an abundance of joy.
The Spiritual Perspective
According to Michael Newton in his book, Journey of Souls, “we have built in amnesia about our soul identity….” This is known as the Draught of Forgetfulness, as taught by the late Dr. Robert Gilbert in his class “The True Rosicrucian and Holy Grail Traditions,” which each of us is given just before we reincarnate.

It’s not a punishment, or some kind of cruel joke.
This is so that we can grow and learn without remembering that we are essentially immortal. This allows us to focus on the lifelong journey of rediscovering who we are as spirit beings.
It provides us with the opportunity to seek spiritual knowledge (from any source) in each lifetime, which contributes to our spiritual evolution.
Even being stuck in the in-between is part of the path of discovery, regardless of how long it takes.
No need to worry if you are not spiritual or don’t believe in reincarnation.
Just by reading this, you have been given the seed of awareness to ponder such things, which, ever so slightly, nudges the soul into remembering.
If a person has not made any progress in remembering they are a spiritual being, when they leave their physical body upon their death, they may have no idea that they have died. This can create a sense of confusion, stress, and trauma, causing them to act out toward those they can see and hear.
When we die, we become super conscious, as discussed in a previous article. This super-consciousness allows the person to remain aware and interact with the physical world.
From our earthly perspective, we have been taught through religion, media, and our social networks that ghosts are to be feared, since they tend to cause us such distress.
We fear what we do not understand.
While there may be demons around in the inner worlds between the heavens and earth, who do exact fear on those in their vicinity, by and large, the ghosts we encounter are simply lost souls who need a little help.
That’s where I come in.
I enter the inner world with my guides and connect with the lost soul, gently helping them to move on.
Since I am still physically incarnated on Earth, they recognize me as a person like them and can relate to me more easily than they can to their own spirit guides and helpers who are not in the physical world.
With the help of soul conduction, lost souls can be gently guided to their next phase of existence, where they again remember who they are and begin to work with their guides on a new incarnation.
I later learned that the house I cleared in Lambertville received an offer the day after I infused the home with loving, pink light energy. Even though I hadn’t cleared the spirit yet, the house was free of its negative energies, allowing the buyer to feel safe and comfortable in the home.
The owners accepted the offer, and the transaction was complete within three months. The homeowner, Cynthia, believes that my “…work was instrumental in selling [her] house.”
If you suspect that you may be dealing with a lost soul haunting your home or place of business, please don't hesitate to reach out. I can assist them in moving on safely, with love and compassion.
Oh, in case you may be wondering how the crystal could duplicate itself, the etheric version of the crystal easily can easily give copies of itself to help serve these lost souls. Its beacon of light was like a healing balm of comfort and joy for them.
Please note:
A word of caution: this type of work is never to be undertaken without proper training and never without the help of helper spirits and guides for your safety, and that of those you wish to help.
Thank you for reading!
I hope you enjoyed this story and that it has opened your eyes to a new way of understanding ghosts and what they are all about, and more importantly, how to help them transition into the light.
